Beard Care: Growing It Out Without Losing the Shape
09 August 2026 · Efe Berber
The most common mistake when growing a beard is not touching it at all "so it can grow". Beards grow unevenly; regular work is what keeps the shape.
The first four weeks
Itching in the early weeks is normal and usually passes. Do not trim the edges yourself in this period — taking the neckline too high is the most frequent error.
How often to trim
A shaped beard needs tidying every three to four weeks. Even while growing it out, the neck and cheek lines stay clean and the length is left alone.
Washing and moisture
Hair shampoo dries a beard out and makes it coarse. Beard shampoo two or three times a week, followed by oil or balm, is enough for most people.
Combing
A comb is for direction, not just tidiness. Combed the same way daily, a beard eventually learns to sit that way.
When to come in
Book when the neck and cheeks lose definition, the length becomes uneven, or you want to change the shape.
